Leadership in Healthcare Is More Important Than Ever 4/27/2020

Today the world is facing a public health crisis not seen in our lifetime, and health care professionals across the globe are rising to the challenge.  Physicians, nurses, technicians and support staff are on the front lines of patient care, while healthcare executives are leading efforts to craft a system to meet a growing demand.

While the role of health care administration in impacting public health has long been recognized, the COVID-19 pandemic highlights the importance of competency-based education.  This 2018 video attached describes why health care management is an inspiring field of study (video provided courtesy of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration).

I encourage you to pass this along to students, and young professionals wanting to make a difference and grow in their field.  Remind them why preparing for a healthcare leadership role is the way to lead a purposeful, meaningful life. It’s hard work, but worthwhile in the service to others.

Those well-prepared for healthcare management, including fields such as healthcare quality and safety, are the go-to people in today’s world.  The leaders who convert acute care beds to ICU beds, who determine how to reallocate resources, who manifest teamwork, and who ensure that scientific-based information is shared with the public, are the behind-the-scenes heroes ensuring the health of the community.

Young professionals who want to make a difference can find that attending classes at CAHME Accredited Programs and CAHME Certified Programs in Healthcare Quality and Safety is a great start.
