Population Health Management
In 2021, CAHME began the process of evaluating the need for programs in Population Health Management to have criteria and standards similar to traditional healthcare management and healthcare quality and safety programs.
CAHME, representatives from 10 programs in the United States and Canada, several practitioners, and the Healthcare Finance and Management Association (HFMA) were assembled. Forming the Population Health Management Council, they worked to develop Certification Standards which would eventually lead to the establishment of accreditation standards.
Given CAHME’s mission to “serve the public interest by advancing the quality of healthcare management education,” CAHME evaluated and determined that Population Health Management accreditation standards can be incorporated under CAHME’s traditional criteria and standards. While the competencies may be different, they will still fall under the CAHME competency domains.
In May 2022, the CAHME Board approved the first step, establishing standards for “Certification” of Population Health Management programs. In May 2023, the CAHME Board approved the accreditation process for programs in Population Health Management. The interim step of “certification” sunset with the establishment of accreditation standards.
