Steps to Accreditation
Navigating the pathway to accreditation may present complexity and generate numerous questions for institutions. The assembled chart intends to demystify this journey, offering a comprehensive overview and anticipated timelines associated with the process. We look forward to welcoming your campus to our list of CAHME accredited programs.
Eligibility
The first step to becoming CAHME Accredited is submitting an Eligibility statement. Register for a free account on the CAHME Accreditation Management Portal (CAMP) and complete the Eligibility statement. Eligibility requirements can be found within the Self-Study Handbook.

Candidacy Submission
Upon approval of the Eligibility statement, the program will begin a full application for Candidacy. The Self-Study Handbook is used to gain direction on completing the Candidacy application, a subset of the full Self-Study, within the CAHME Accreditation Management Portal (CAMP). Candidacy applications due date is either October 15 or February 15.

Candidacy Notification
The Candidacy Committee meets twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall, to review Candidacy applications. Following the Candidacy Committee decision, the program is notified of either acceptance or a need for an application resubmission. If accepted, the program is provided with the suggested self-study year which will align with the program’s academic year.

Self-Study Year
The self-study year will align with the program’s academic year. The Self-Study Handbook is used to gain direction on completing the Self-Study within the CAHME Accreditation Management Portal (CAMP). The program is required complete the Site Visit Readiness Checklist 12 weeks prior to the site visit to ensure readiness.

Site Visit
Site Visits are held in the Fall or Spring following the self-study year. The site visit typically lasts 3 days and are hosted by the university. A team of volunteer CAHME site visitors will attend the site visit. For further details on what a site visit entails, see Instructions for a Site Visit.

Accreditation Notification
The Spring or Fall following the site visit, the site visit team’s findings will be presented to the Accreditation Council, who will then vote on the accreditation outcome. Following the Accreditation Council, the decision will then go to the CAHME Board of Directors for final approval. The program is then notified within a week of the final Board decision.
