Prepare for the 2026 Standards

The 2026 CAHME Standards emphasize practices that are most effective when implemented over time. Regardless of your self-study year, these are five important areas every program should begin planning for and incorporating into their ongoing operations.

Required Program Topics

Learn More

Criterion 3.1 (Exhibit 3.1.1)
CAHME is validating that every graduate of the program is provided instruction on each Required Program Topic at least once during the student’s plan of study. Programs have flexibility in how the topics are delivered, but they must demonstrate that every student has the opportunity to learn each required topic through an intentional, documented, and consistently implemented process.

Andragogical Development

Criterion 5.2
CAHME is validating a systematic process for improving teaching, not simply documenting attendance at teaching development events.

Sustainability
Plan

Learn More

Criterion 1.2
CAHME is validating that the program has a systematic, evidence-based process for maintaining the resources, infrastructure, and operational capacity necessary to fulfill its mission over time. The sustainment plan should be an actively managed document that anticipates future needs, monitors strategic priorities and risks, and supports informed decision-making—not a document created solely for accreditation.

Process Improvement Cycle (PIC) Tool

Learn More

Complete a Program Improvement Cycle (PIC) Tool whenever the program’s analysis identifies a meaningful opportunity to improve program quality, student learning, or program effectiveness. Improvement opportunities may arise from assessment results, curriculum reviews, student or stakeholder feedback, program operations, strategic initiatives, or other evidence reviewed through the program’s continuous quality improvement processes. The PIC Tool documents how the program identified the opportunity, implemented improvements, and evaluated the effectiveness of those actions.

Integrative Final Assessment

Learn More

Criterion 3.2
CAHME is validating that, before graduation, every student demonstrates achievement of the program-level competency proficiency targets by integrating and applying multiple competencies in a comprehensive, practice-oriented assessment. The focus is on demonstratingthat graduates are prepared for professional healthcare management roles.
