The Robert S Bonney Scholarship for Veterans of the US Armed Services

The Robert S. Bonney Scholarship for Veterans of the U.S. Armed Services honors an honorably discharged veteran who has demonstrated exceptional leadership, dedication, and service throughout their military career. This scholarship recognizes individuals who are now committed to making a lasting impact in healthcare through strong, value-driven leadership.

Eligibility

  • Student in CAHME Accredited Program

  • Nominations must be made by the students Program Director, or a faculty member on behalf of the University Program Director

  • Honorably discharged from a branch of the US Armed Forces.
  • Upon Notification of being a finalist, the candidate must submit a DD 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty)

Nominees for this award exemplify the following qualities:

  • Translate their dedication to service into a meaningful commitment to improving healthcare systems and outcomes, 
  • Pursue excellence in healthcare leadership through resilience, focus, and a mission-driven mindset 
  • Exemplify discipline, resilience, and a strong work ethic, 
  • Translate their commitment to service into a passion for improving healthcare and leading with purpose in civilian life, 
  • Demonstrate a clear commitment to healthcare leadership through specific actions or initiatives. 

    Nomination Essays

    The nomination consists of three essays of no more than 250 words each. One essay will be completed by the Program Director and two essays will be completed by the student. We recommend typing your essay responses in a saved document outside of the online application in case of technical difficulties. You may copy and paste from your personal document to the online application when you are ready.

    1. Program Director: In approximately 250 words or less, describe why this student is an ideal candidate to receive a CAHME scholarship. In your response, please highlight how the student has demonstrated leadership within their academic program or the broader community.
    2. Student: In approximately 250 words or less, provide one or more specific examples of how you demonstrated leadership, dedication, and service during your military career. Clearly explain the direct impact your leadership had — such as measurable improvements, positive changes in your unit, or outcomes that benefited others. Then, describe how you have applied those same skills and values to your work in healthcare or your preparation for a healthcare leadership role. 
    3. Student: In approximately 250 words or less, describe your need for this scholarship, including any personal, financial, or professional circumstances that have affected your ability to pursue graduate education. Explain how you would use the funds if awarded and how this support would impact your future career in healthcare leadership, including the long-term difference you hope to make in the healthcare field.
