Lee W. Bewley, Ph.D., FACHE, is an accomplished healthcare executive, scholar, and educator with extensive leadership experience spanning academic, military, and healthcare delivery systems. He currently serves as Associate Professor and Director of Health Management Programs, including the CAHME-accredited MSHA program, at the University of Louisville, where he leads academic strategy, program development, and operations for graduate and undergraduate healthcare management education.

Dr. Bewley has a proven record of building and advancing innovative academic programs, including the development of online and competency-based degrees, dual-degree options, and multiple graduate certificates. Under his leadership, programs have achieved national recognition, including CAHME accreditation, strong U.S. News rankings, and measurable student success in national competitions and administrative fellowships.

His prior academic leadership roles include Associate Dean of the Graduate School at the Academy of Health Sciences and Program Director of the Army–Baylor University MHA–MBA program, where he oversaw multi-disciplinary graduate programs, significantly improved national rankings, expanded enrollment, and strengthened faculty research productivity.

Dr. Bewley’s healthcare leadership experience is grounded in over two decades of service in the U.S. Army Medical Department. As a hospital director and deputy task force commander in Iraq, he managed more than 700 clinical and administrative personnel, achieving exceptional clinical outcomes, including a 100% survival rate among combat casualties under his care. He also served in senior operational roles managing large outpatient systems and leading accreditation, access-to-care, and financial improvement initiatives.

A Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE), Dr. Bewley is recognized nationally for his contributions to healthcare management education, leadership development, and strategic management. His scholarship focuses on leadership, competency-based education, and organizational performance, with numerous publications and presentations across academic and professional forums. Dr. Bewley is a former President of the Kentucky Chapter of ACHE and is currently serving as Regent.

Dr. Bewley holds a Ph.D. in Administration-Health Services (Strategy) from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and an MHA from the Army-Baylor University program. He earned an undergraduate degree in Economics and Business from the Virginia Military Institute and was commissioned into the Army Medical Service Corps.

Through his combined expertise in healthcare operations, executive leadership, and higher education, Dr. Bewley continues to shape the next generation of healthcare leaders and advance the field of healthcare management.
