CAHME celebrates students and CAHME accredited programs who exemplify our mission of advancing the quality of healthcare management education. Award recipients receive a scholarship or grant, recognition in CAHME and partner media, complimentary tickets and accommodation at the awards ceremony at ACHE, and a physical award to commemorate their achievement.

The CAHME/Canon Award for Excellence in Sustainability in Healthcare Management Education

Who can apply: CAHME Accredited or Certified Programs

Award: One-time grant of $5,000.00 awarded to the Program faculty to further research of sustainability in healthcare.

About: CAHME and Canon are united by a shared belief: that sustainable healthcare leadership is essential to building a better future. Since 2017, Canon has partnered with CAHME to recognize accredited programs that embed sustainability into healthcare management education — including enivonrmental, social, and economic dimensions. The award celebrates programs preparing future healthcare leaders to build more resilient and responsible systems.

The CAHME/Judy Baar Topinka Foundation Scholarship for Health Policy

Who can apply: Program directors or designated faculty of CAHME Accredited or Certified Programs may nominate students for this award.

Award: One-time scholarship of $2,000.00.

About: Judy Baar Topinka began her career in journalism and went on to blaze a pioneering path as a public servant in Illinois. First elected to the Illinois House of Representatives in 1980, Judy later became a state senator and was elected as the first woman to serve as the state’s Treasurer. As a legislator and civic leader, Judy was an advocate for the health and welfare of the residents of Illinois. Many of her legislative achievements focus on improving healthcare quality and access. Her expertise in health policy led her to chair the Health and Welfare Committee of the Illinois Senate. She believed in public service and was tireless in her advocacy of those in need. She believed in passion, hard work, ethical leadership, and persistence. The successful applicant will share these qualities and characteristics.

The CAHME/Tim Campbell Scholarship for Selfless Service to Others and the Community

Who can apply: Program directors or designated faculty of CAHME Accredited or Certified Programs may nominate students for this award.

Award: One-time scholarship of $3,000.00.

About: The CAHME/Tim Campbell Scholarship for Selfless Service to Others and the Community is named for Tim Campbell, a CAHME board member who personified a commitment to service and volunteerism. Tim believed in hard work and selfless service in his professional and personal life and believed that true success is measured through relationships that help others reach their full potential.

Award: One-time scholarship of $3,000.00.

About: This scholarship honors Fawn Lopez, Publisher Emeritus of Modern Healthcare, whose vision and leadership have shaped the field of healthcare media and elevated critical issues to national attention. It recognizes students in CAHME-Accredited programs who demonstrate resilience, integrity, and a commitment to advancing healthcare through strong, values-driven leadership.

Who can apply: Program directors or designated faculty of CAHME Accredited or Certified Programs may nominate students for this award.

Award: One-time scholarship of $5,000.00.

The CAHME/Gail Matejcic Peace Scholarship for Visionary Healthcare Leaders

Who can apply: Program directors or designated faculty of CAHME Accredited or Certified Programs may nominate students for this award.

Award: One-time scholarship of $10,000.00.

About:The CAHME/Gail Matejcic Peace Scholarship for Visionary Healthcare Leaders recognizes a graduate student with the vision, determination, and creativity to lead meaningful change in healthcare. Created through the support of healthcare executive and entrepreneur Gail Matejcic Peace, the scholarship supports students who can identify opportunities, take action, and achieve results that improve healthcare systems, outcomes, or access.

The CAHME/Joint Commission Fellowship for Advancing Sustainable Health Care

Who can apply: Students in a CAHME Accredited or Certified Program whom has completed a sustainability related course, project, or volunteer effort.

Award: One year fellowship with Joint Comission beginning July 1, 2026.

About: CAHME and Joint Commission are united by a shared belief: that sustainable healthcare leadership is essential to advancing quality, safety, and healthier communities. Together, they award a one-year fellowship to a graduating student from a CAHME-accredited program who demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainability and continuous improvement.

The CAHME/Baldrige Foundation Award for Leadership Excellence

Who can apply: No applications accepted. All program directors who received a full 7 or 8 year CAHME accreditation in the last year are nominated.

Award: Physical award to commemorate achievement.

About:  The Baldrige Foundation promotes leadership excellence by encouraging strategies that align mission, vision, and values to drive innovation and achieve sustainable results. It supports leaders through educational programs, resources, and recognition initiatives, empowering them to foster a culture of continuous improvement and resilience, ensuring their organizations can adapt and thrive in a competitive environment.

The CAHME/Baldrige Foundation Award for Leadership Excellence recognizes a program director who has made significant strides in improving the quality of their program and advancing the quality of healthcare management education.

The CAHME/Dr. Dolores Clement Fellow of the Year Award

Who can apply: No applications accepted. Fellow or Certified Fellows will be nominated by either site visitors who attended a site visit within the past fiscal year and program directors who had a site visit within the past fiscal year. 

Award: One-time financial award; One additional site visit credit toward their lifetime total; Physical award to commemorate their achivement.

About: The CAHME/Dr. Dolores Clement Fellow of the Year Award recognizes a fellow that is nominated by other site visitors and programs visited, has a history of service as a fellow, for helping programs to succeed, and demonstrates a commitment to advance the quality of healthcare management education.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply to a student scholarship?

CAHME Scholarships are available to students in CAHME Accredited and CAHME Certified Programs. Students must ask their University Program Director to nominate them to a scholarship. There are six scholarships available.

What awards are available to programs?

Programmatic awards are available to CAHME Accredited, CAHME Certified in Healthcare Quality and Safety, and CAHME Certified in Population Health Management programs. There is one  programmatic award available this year: CAHME/Canon Solutions America Award for Sustainability in Healthcare Management Education.

Applications must be complete by a University Program Director, or Faculty on behalf of the University Program Director.

 

How do I apply to the student fellowship?

Students in CAHME Accredited and Certified programs are eligible for the CAHME/Joint Commission Fellowship Award for Advancing Sustainable Health Care fellowship. Students can apply themselves for the fellowship, however it required to have a letter of recommendation from their attending University Program Director. CAHME encourages students to contact their program director prior to the application process.

When will I be notified of next steps for scholarships and awards?

All applications and nominations are reviewed by blue-ribbon panels in November. All program directors and students that were nominated are notified of a decision in December.

When is the CAHME Awards Ceremony?

The CAHME awards ceremony at ACHE is held on the Sunday before Congress begins. Awards recipients and scholarships winners are honored at the ceremony and receive complimentary tickets. 

Can I apply to multiple awards and scholarships?

Programs can apply to more than one award. Previous programmatic award recipients can apply again if it has been three or more years since the year they received the award.

Students can be nominated to multiple scholarships.
